Our program for Term 2, 2023 is now available on our Program page.
This term Garden & Gourmet is in recess, and we have two activities for the term breaks: Holiday Drop-in, and Ladies who Lunch. – Details in the term 2 program.
We start preparing the coming term program at least mid way through the preceding term. If you have any suggestions for gardens, topics or speakers, please contact us.
A Smorgasbord of Talks
Talks on many varied subjects, with time for discussion and questions. This term’s topics include:
- Getting to know the background of some of our members
- An Antarctic adventure
- The battle over The Voice
- Grumpy old grammarians
- Birds in your garden
- The jazz of the brothers Marsalis
- Anxiety and Depression
- The Knights Hospitaller
- The home towns of some of our members
Art Group
Art can be a solitary hobby, and often frustrating. This group is an opportunity to socialize, learn from, and share experience with other potential artists in an informal setting. It is not restricted to painting, and includes watercolours, acrylics, drawing and pastel (but not oils). As there is no tutor, it is designed to provide a space for those who are past the beginners stage.
Book Groups
We have two Book groups, one looking at themes on a wide range of topics, with members free to select any fiction or non-fiction book which fits into the theme; and a more traditional book club where we share and discuss a specific book, based on titles in the Tasmanian Public Library Book Groups (so there is no need to buy lots of books – unless you want to).
Creative Writing for All
There are two Writers’ groups – a weekly skills meeting to share writing techniques
and tips, and a monthly discussion and support group where aspirant writers can exchange written work and receive constructive, encouraging critiques from fellow members.
Drawing for Beginners
Everyone can draw, it’s just a matter of having the right tools in place to do so. These classes cover the five foundation blocks of drawing, and are designed for those who have little or no experience. These skills form the tools you will need to help you build confidence, knowledge and technical expertise in developing your own practice.
Family History Interest Group
A small group of genealogy tragics meets to share experiences, discuss techniques and generally learn from each other.
Garden & Gourmet – in recess for the winter
In the Spring and Autumn terms Garden & Gourmet presents a series of visits, talks and workshops on all things garden, and gourmet, with plenty of opportunity to look, discuss and ask. There are always lots of fascinating gardens to visit, some social events, and some opportunities to buy assorted foods and plants.
Holiday drop-in
A casual, informal get together for a cuppa and a chat during the term breaks
Ladies Who Lunch
Ladies Who Lunch is an opportunity for informal social gatherings during the term breaks.
Men’s Forum
The Men’s forum meets to discuss any topics of interest, relevance or concern. And do a bit of socialising . . .
Play Reading
Drama, Comedy, Mystery, Crime – experience the joys and sorrows of other lives, places and times. You don’t have to have great acting skills – just be able to read, enjoy being entertained and love laughing. Beginners welcome.
Some of our courses have limits on numbers – for more more information on each course, please read our most recent program, available on the Program page.
If you are presenting a talk for us, there is more information you may need, and details of what we need from you, on our For Presenters page.
